Meta Took Its Sweet Time, But Instagram Is Finally on Fire TV
Today, Amazon and Meta are announcing that Instagram will be available on Fire TV devices, which makes it the first time Instagram content has been designed for TV.
Users will now be able to watch Reels organized into personalized channels based on their interests. This includes music, sports, travel, and everything else you can imagine. Like Instagram on your phone, this version of the app also includes support for multiple accounts.
“Our mission is to get you to the world’s best content fast, and we’re thrilled to welcome Instagram to Fire TV,” said Aidan Marcuss, vice president, Fire TV. “We’re committed to keep pushing the boundaries of entertainment on customers’ biggest screens—the Instagram team has built an awesome experience, and we’re excited to be the first place to offer it. We can’t wait to see what customers think.”
This is an interesting pivot for Instagram and Meta as a whole, since the company was reluctant to make an iPad app or really even support Instagram on tablets for the longest time. Now, after releasing an iPad app, Instagram is coming to the big screen in a big way. It’ll be interesting to see how other TV platforms like Android TV and Roku.
