Google Translate is easily one of the (if not the first) first-choice for many who’re travelling to a new place that speak different language. The app’s long list of features makes it easy to get by during the stay. Besides just translations, this app from Google offers a lot more, like a personalized conversation practice mode to learn a language. Now, it seems Google Translate is working on improving your pronunciation with the new AI-powered “Practice” mode.

Google Translate seems to be working on a new pronunciation training feature

Currently, if you translate anything on Google Translate, you will see a speaker icon next to the results. This lets you listen to a spoken voice sample. Now, while digging through version 10.10.37.885563132.3 of Google Translate for Android, folks at Android Authority have discovered a new AI-powered “Practice” mode. This is apparently designed to improve pronunciation. While this isn’t visible to everyone yet, the report shows how it looks and functions.

The new “Practice” button is present alongside the “Understand” and “Ask” AI features that users see with translations at the bottom. Tapping the new button reportedly takes you to a screen where you can see (from the images) “Listen” and “Proannounce” buttons. Selecting the latter will let you take a shot at saying the translation yourself.

Google Translate will reportedly listen to and analyze your pronunciation and assess it. It also offers you an option to try again and better it. In case the voice recording wasn’t clear, the app reportedly shows a phonetic representation of how the words should sound. It will also ask you to give it another try since it had trouble hearing you the first time.

The report adds that the feature could be limited to only certain language pairs. It’s not clear which languages will be present, though. Currently, the images only show it working with Spanish and English. We’ll probably have to wait for some more time to learn more about this Google Translate feature.
