A Man Hung Off a Zipline Using Only the HONOR Magic V6 Hinge: Here's What Happened
How durable is the foldable HONOR Magic V6? As it turns out, a lot. The phone’s durability was recently put to the test by YouTuber Joe Weller, where he basically threw himself off a tree supported by nothing but the HONOR Magic V6. Spoiler alert: he survived!
Is the HONOR Magic V6 durable? Why, yes!
The HONOR Magic V6 foldable phone was recently announced. One of the changes the company made to the phone was to its hinge. The hinge of a foldable phone is typically one of its weaker spots. We saw this when the first reviews of the first-gen Samsung Galaxy Z Fold started coming in.
Over the years, companies have introduced new hinge mechanisms to make it stronger. In the HONOR Magic V6, HONOR has made the hinge more durable than ever. The company calls it a “Super Steel Hinge” that uses special commercial-grade steel rated at 2,800MPa. This basically refers to the unit of pressure and material strength. Suffice to say, 2,800MPa for a smartphone is pretty incredible.
In the video, Weller put the phone’s hinge to the test. He started by hanging his 25kg backpack off it, and it held up. Next, he attached a 50kg box of supplies and sent it across the zipline. Once again, the phone survived. In his final test, Weller hung all 80kg of himself on the phone and sped across the zipline. And like we said earlier, he made it.
Now, is this the most scientifically accurate test of durability? Hardly. But was it entertaining? Hell yes. While we don’t advise you to try something similar on your own, HONOR’s message is clear: its new hinge is tough as nails.
What do we know about the Magic V6?
The HONOR Magic V6 is the latest foldable from the company. It is also the thinnest foldable phone in the world at 8.75mm (only the white model, by the way). It boasts a 7.95-inch inner display and a 6.52-inch outer display.
Under the hood, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It features 16GB of RAM and goes up to 1TB of storage. It also boasts a triple camera setup on the outside consisting of a 50MP main, a 64MP telephoto, and 50MP ultrawide. It also packs a 6,660mAh battery, the largest we’ve seen in a foldable. This is thanks to the use of the company’s new Blade Battery technology.
The company hasn’t announced how much it will cost yet. However, it is expected to make its debut in China later this month. International markets will follow in the second half of the year.
