The Google Pixel 10a was announced quite recently, and in this article, we’ll compare it to one of the other Pixel 10 phones. This is a Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10 comparison. Aside from the Pixel 9a, the Pixel 10 is the closest to the Pixel 10a you can get in the Pixel 10 series, price-wise. These two phones do have a lot in common, but there are also some differences, as the Pixel 10 is a more powerful phone.

As we usually do, we will first list the specs of both smartphones. Following that, we’ll compare them across a number of other categories. We will compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. The Pixel 10 is more expensive, but it may be worth the extra cash. Let’s see what both phones have to offer.

Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10: Design

From the front, these two phones look almost the same. The only difference is in bezel thickness, as the bezels on the Pixel 10 are a bit thinner. They’re uniform on both smartphones, though. Both phones have flat displays and a centered display camera hole up top. The corner curvature is also the same, as the corners are curved quite a bit. Both devices also have a flat frame all around.

The power/lock button sits above the volume up and down keys on both phones, and those physical keys are located on the right-hand side. The backplate is also flat on both of these devices. Thanks to different camera setups, however, things look noticeably different. The Pixel 10a has a much smaller camera island, which is flush with the phone’s backplate. It’s a pill-shaped camera island, which sits in the top-left corner.

The Pixel 10, on the flip side, has a camera visor on the back. That camera visor is horizontal, and it sits towards the top of the phone’s backplate. There are three cameras on the inside, compared to two on the Pixel 10a. More on that later. Both phones have a frame made out of aluminum, but their backplates are different. The one on the Pixel 10a is made out of plastic, while the Pixel 10 has a glass backplate.

Both of these phones are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. They’re both compact and similar in terms of size, but the Pixel 10 is a bit shorter, narrower, and thinner. It is also heavier than the Pixel 10a. They’re both quite slippery.

Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10: Display

The Google Pixel 10a features a 6.3-inch P-OLED display, which is flat, and it supports HDR content and a 120Hz refresh rate. That panel has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a screen-to-body ratio of around 84%. The resolution here is 2424 x 1080 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 20:9. The Gorilla Glass 7i protects this display, by the way.

Google Pixel 10 AH 04

The Google Pixel 10, on the flip side, has a 6.3-inch display as well. In fact, that display is identical in almost every way. The only difference is the screen-to-body ratio and display protection. Everything else, including the size, resolution, aspect ratio, brightness, and so on, is the same. The screen-to-body ratio is around 86%, while the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this panel.

In terms of what they deliver, these two displays are identical. They’re both good, though. They’re vivid, with great viewing angles, and good touch response. Both displays are also quite bright, more than bright enough. The sharpness is also on a high level, a fullHD+ resolution is more than enough for 6.3-inch panels. These are not LTPO displays, and high-frequency PWM dimming is also missing. They’re also not flagship panels, so that is to be expected.

Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10: Performance

The Google Pixel 10a is fueled by the Google Tensor G4 processor. That is a 4nm chip, and it’s a bit surprising that Google didn’t use a newer Tensor G5 chip. The Tensor G4 is the same chip that was used in the Pixel 9a last year. That chip is backed by 8GB of RAM here, and UFS 3.1 flash storage. The storage is not expandable, by the way.

The Google Pixel 10, on the other hand, is fueled by the Google Tensor G5 processor. That is a newer chip from Google, a 3nm processor. That chip is paired with 12GB of RAM inside of this phone, and either UFS 3.1 or UFS 4.0 storage. The UFS 3.1 storage is used in a 128GB storage model, while the 256GB variant uses UFS 4.0 storage. This phone doesn’t support storage expansion either.

Both of these phones offer really good performance. The Tensor G5 is a bit better in day-to-day use, a bit, but the Tensor G4 still does a good job. They’re not as fast as some competitors from Qualcomm and MediaTek, but they do the job just fine. The lag is not present, and even if you’re gaming, they’re doing a good job. Do note that these chips are not made for gaming, however, and if you’re planning on pushing them to run demanding games, they’re not the best options, especially the Tensor G4 inside the Pixel 10a. We didn’t use the Pixel 10a for long, so you’ll have to wait for our full review for more information.

Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10: Battery

The Google Pixel 10a includes a 5,100mAh battery on the inside. The Google Pixel 10, on the other hand, incorporates a 4,970mAh battery. The Pixel 10 doesn’t offer great battery life, but it’s okay. We’re not sure about the Pixel 10a just yet, as we did not review it at this point, but we’re expecting similar results to what the Pixel 10 is offering. The Pixel 10 can last throughout the day if you’re not a power user, in which case you’ll likely have to charge it.

There are phones in this category in the market that offer much better battery life, at least in most markets. Google opted not to use a silicon-carbon battery, which would change things quite considerably. Still, for most people, chances are that both phones will do a good enough job. Well, at least the Pixel 10, as we still haven’t properly tested the Pixel 10a’s battery life at this point.

When it comes to wired charging, they’re on the same level. Both phones support 30W wired charging. The Pixel 10a supports 10W wireless charging, while the Pixel 10 Pro supports 15W Qi2 wireless charging and has magnets built in. So it does have an advantage in that regard. The Pixel 10 also supports reverse wired charging, while bypass charging is supported by both phones. Neither device comes with a charger in the box, though.

Google Pixel 10a vs Google Pixel 10: Cameras

The Google Pixel 10a has two cameras on the back, while the Pixel 10 has three cameras on the back. The thing is, the main and ultrawide cameras are identical across the two devices. You’ll find a 48-megapixel main camera (1/2.0-inch sensor size) is included, along with a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/3.1-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV). The Pixel 10 also has a third camera on the back.

Google Pixel 10 AH 07

The third camera on the back of the Pixel 10 is a 10.8-megapixel telephoto unit (1/3.2-inch sensor size, 5x optical zoom). So, the photos should be very similar from the main and ultrawide cameras, despite the fact that a different chip is used. We’ll find out more once we get through our Pixel 10a review. When it comes to telephoto images, we can already say that the Pixel 10 will do a better job, simply because of the fact it has a telephoto camera.

The Pixel 10 does a good job with photos, though it’s nowhere near being the best camera out there. It provides images with that well-known Pixel look. They end up looking quite processed and contrasty, which many people prefer. They could have more sharpness to them, though, and they’re not ideal, but they’re good. The phone also does a solid job in low light, especially with the main camera.

Audio

When it comes to speakers, both of them have stereo speakers. The ones on the Pixel 10 are actually quite good. They’re loud enough, and the audio output quality is also solid. We’re expecting the Pixel 10a to offer something similar, by the way.

There is no audio jack on either of these two smartphones. You can, however, connect your wired headphones via the Type-C port, which both of these phones have. Alternatively, you can utilize Bluetooth 6.0 for wireless audio; both phones support it.
