Galaxy S26 is Getting a "Hey Plex" AI Agent with Perplexity Brain

Samsung continues its quest to become the dominant force in mobile AI. For several years, the company has been working closely with Google to gain early access to Gemini’s AI models and all related features. However, the tech giant’s next step is to achieve greater independence for its Galaxy AI suite. In line with this, Samsung is bringing deep, system-level integration of the popular AI search engine, Perplexity, to the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, even giving it its own wake phrase: “Hey Plex.”

Perplexity will not be a complete replacement for the Gemini and the revamped Bixby AI assistants. Instead, Samsung is betting on a multi-agent approach that offers users more flexibility, allowing them to choose which AI assistant they want to use for a particular task.

Hey Plex AI agent to debut with the Samsung Galaxy 26 series

You might wonder why a single phone needs three different assistants. According to Samsung’s research, users are already moving in this direction. Their data shows that nearly 80% of people now rely on at least two different AI tools to get through their day. People choose one for research and another for scheduling or messaging, for instance.

So, to boost AI integration into users’ daily lives, Samsung is not forcing users to “pick a side.” By embedding Perplexity directly into the OS, the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra can coordinate between different AI services depending on what you need. This approach allows the device understand the context of different apps, like your Gallery and Calendar, without you having to copy and paste information back and forth.

More than just simple voice commands

The “Hey Plex” feature does more than just answer trivia questions. This AI agent can help manage multi-step workflows thanks to its framework-level integration. Imagine researching a travel destination and having the AI automatically create a note, set a reminder for a flight, and add the event to your calendar in one smooth motion.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup is the first to lead this charge. However, Samsung has hinted that Plex might not stay exclusive to the new flagships for long. The company mentioned that more details regarding supported devices are coming soon. This gives hope to owners of older Galaxy models.
