A Google TV gaming monitor is the latest offering from ASUS ROG
The ASUS ROG brand is launching a new gaming monitor this week, and wouldn’t you know it, it comes with Google TV integration. Smart gaming monitors with streaming capabilities aren’t anything incredibly new. Samsung has been releasing them with the Samsung Gaming Hub for at least a few years now. Those same monitors also have apps for popular movie and TV streaming platforms. LG has some gaming monitors like this as well.
The difference between those monitors and the new ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMTG is that the latter has Google TV baked in. This could be the first gaming monitor on the market that offers Google TV. It’s certainly the first one that ASUS has ever released. Sure, if it’s a gaming monitor, it’s attached to something like a PC or console. Both have apps for your favorite streaming services. And, you could just as easily open the browser on your PC and go to the website of those same services. However, Google TV has an ease of use to it that makes content consumption more enjoyable.
The ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG34WCDMTG monitor comes with the best of Google TV
The best part about Google TV isn’t really the streaming service apps. It’s things like voice-activated features and the recommendations for content to watch. Google TV learns about what you like to watch over time. This can lead to some neat discoveries regarding content.
The voice activation is also a rather handy feature. You can speak to Google just like you do on your phone and ask Google to find something to watch. Making things a little hands-free and easier on you if you’re struggling to find something. It’s little things like that which make the Google TV integration a really nice addition.
Of course, the tech specs are nothing to sneeze at. This is an ASUS ROG Strix monitor, after all. It has an OLED panel, for starters, and a WQHD resolution at 34 inches in size. So, it’s ultra-wide. The refresh rate is 240Hz with a very low 0.3ms response time, too. It also comes with Wi-Fi 6 support, a pre-installed GeForce Now app, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, and ports for DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. Making it ready for both your gaming PC and your new consoles, like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
If there’s a downside, it’s the cost. The price of this monitor in the US is $1,199. So, it’s certainly not cheap. But it has plenty of nice features, an OLED panel, and it’s a decent size, while also coming from the ASUS ROG Strix brand.
