Samsung plans to transition away from ARM’s Cortex designs. This could reshape the future of its mobile processors. However, the upcoming Exynos 2600 will still rely on the ARM architecture. However, the internal reports suggest this may be the final generation to do so. The company has formed a new team responsible for building fully custom CPU designs along with integrated IP, AI capabilities, and Neural Processing Units.

With this step, Samsung seeks autonomy and a deeper integration with its software and hardware departments. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Samsung has done such things. It had earlier experimented with its Mongoose cores but abandoned them after Cortex solutions delivered better results. The company’s newly formed team reduces reliance on outsourcing and strengthens Samsung’s position. They want the company’s efficiency and consistency to match the level of Apple and Qualcomm.

Vice President Park Bong-il has been given the responsibility of overseeing the team. He brings years of experience in the semiconductor field. Samsung also benefits from strong internal manufacturing capabilities, including a foundry that serves major clients such as Tesla and cryptocurrency hardware makers.

Industry experts have predicted that this move could expand Samsung’s market reach. Future Exynos chipsets may be supplied to other manufacturers rather than appearing only on Samsung devices. However, success will depend on whether the company can prove that its foundry and custom designs can compete with the performance gains or not.
