Apple's Chip Head Johny Srouji is Reportedly Considering Leaving
Companies lose key executives from time to time. This can be a huge blow depending on how integral they were to the company’s success. That’s something that Apple seems to be experiencing right now. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple chip chief Johny Srouji could be next to leave the company.
Apple chip chief could be next to leave
Srouji’s position and role at Apple has been integral to the company’s success in recent years. He played a key role in helping Apple transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, the company’s own custom chipset designed for its Mac computers and iPads.
According to the report, the Apple chip chief reportedly told CEO Tim Cook that he was “seriously” planning to leave. It is unclear where he might end up if he leaves. However, his departure could be a huge blow to Apple. Ever since the launch of Apple Silicon, the company has proven that computer makers don’t need to rely that much on Intel as previously thought.
Apple Silicon has also allowed Apple to create Mac computers with pretty impressive performance and amazing battery life. We’re sure that Apple isn’t relying completely on Srouji, but his departure could impact the company’s development of future chipsets and ambitions.
According to Gurman, Srouji’s potential departure is considered a more “imminent risk.” Cook is working hard to try and keep him around by offering a substantial pay package and more responsibility. This could also result in Srouji being promoted to the role of chief technology officer.
Apple’s brain drain
That being said, 2025 is proving to be quite a tough personnel year for Apple. For starters, Apple COO Jeff Williams has officially retired. Senior Vice President and General Counsel Kate Adams, Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, and AI chief John Giannandrea have also announced their own retirements. Earlier this year, CFO Luca Maestri announced that he was stepping down.
More recently, Apple’s VP of Human Interface Design, Alan Dye, has also reportedly left the company to join Meta. Last but not least, there are rumors that CEO Tim Cook is also planning on retiring in the near future. These are some pretty major shake ups, many of whom have played key roles in Apple’s success in the past decade or so.
