Many Samsung Galaxy Phone Owners Are Not Using AI Editing, Survey Finds
Artificial intelligence has become a major focus for every tech giant. Big companies like Samsung are heavily integrating AI features into their flagship devices. Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite, which includes powerful tools like Generative Edit for resizing, moving, or removing objects in photos, aims to simplify the process of capturing the “perfect” moment. However, recent data suggests that user adoption of these AI photo editing features on Samsung Galaxy phones is surprisingly low.
Samsung itself shared data from a European study conducted by Opinium Research. The numbers present an interesting paradox. A large majority of respondents—86%—admitted they frequently noticed unwanted elements in their photos, such as photo-bombers, stray objects, or reflections that they wished they could remove. Despite this high level of recognized imperfections, a significant 74% of those people reported they have never used the AI editing tools available on their phones to fix those issues.
This suggests that while the need for these tools is high, the actual use is low. The research surveyed 500 adults across 10 European countries. This indicates that less than one-quarter of users who see a problem in their photos actually engage with the AI solution provided by the phone.
Why Samsung Galaxy phone users aren’t resorting to Galaxy AI for photo editing
Samsung’s stated goal for its AI features is to help users remain present and enjoy the moment, rather than constantly striving to capture a flawless shot. The company argues that users can snap a photo quickly and then rely on Galaxy AI later to fix any issues. Indeed, 57% of those surveyed felt that taking photos often pulls them out of the experience they are trying to enjoy.

The low adoption rate could be a result of a potential gap between the feature’s availability and the user’s awareness or ability to find it. Many believe the issue may be one of discoverability. Many users simply do not know that the advanced editing capabilities are available within the native Gallery app.
Some considerations regarding survey results
It is also worth noting that the sample used for the survey was not very large. We are talking about just 500 adults spread across Europe. Modifying the size of the participating population could have influenced the results. Furthermore, the results are not applicable to the US market.
Regardless of the exact cause, the data highlights a clear challenge for Samsung. Successfully marketing a complex AI feature is only the first step. The most important task is ensuring users know how and when to use the feature once they own the device.
