iPhone 18 Pro May Feature Transparent Design Inspired by Nothing Phone

The tech in our smartphones has matured to the point where the differences between the flagship models aren’t that big anymore. This is why phone makers need to differentiate themselves with things like looks and design. In that regard, Nothing has probably done the best job in making its phones look unique. But now, a report from Weibo suggests that Apple could borrow the Nothing Phone’s design for the iPhone 18 Pro.

iPhone 18 Pro could borrow Nothing’s design

According to the post by tipster Digital Chat Station, apparently Apple is working on introducing transparent rear covers for the iPhone 18 Pro, making it look somewhat similar to the Nothing Phone’s design. This is an interesting approach, especially since Apple has typically favored more “serious” looks for its phones. It has experimented with bright and fun colors, but otherwise it still maintains that “professional” look.

Nothing, on the other hand, has opted for a more modern and wild design. We don’t blame them, though. Like we said, for a relatively new company to the smartphone scene, it needs to stand out.

That being said, it is unclear how transparent this rear cover is. Will it be 100% transparent like glass, where you can completely see the phone’s innards? If so, that would look remarkably similar to the Nothing Phone. Alternatively, maybe Apple could opt for a translucent rear cover, which might hint at the innards of the phone.

Either way, Apple wouldn’t be the first to do something like this. Nothing, HTC, and Xiaomi have all tried this design in the past.

In other news

In addition to revealing a potentially transparent or translucent rear cover, the post from Digital Chat Station also revealed that Apple is testing a punch-hole cutout for the front of the iPhone 18. Right now, Apple’s iPhones have a wider notch, which houses the Dynamic Island feature.

Some have criticized the design, claiming it takes up too much space. Apple has made it smaller in recent generations, but it’s still very much present. The post also claims Apple is testing the use of a variable aperture main camera. This means that users will have more control over the aperture of the camera, which can help photos look brighter and sharper, depending on the settings.
