Huawei’s 3nm Gaming Phone Could Shake Up the Mobile Market in 2026
Huawei is all set to launch its latest Mate 80 series of flagship smartphones at an event on November 25 in China. Multiple rumors have claimed that these devices will utilize the company’s new Kirin 9030 chip. While we wait for the Mate 80 series’ arrival, a new leak from China suggests that Huawei will enter the gaming segment with a phone featuring a 3nm chip.
A sketchy rumor says Huawei could launch a 3nm gaming phone next year
Weibo tipster Instant Digital claims that Huawei will launch a gaming phone with the Kirin 9030 chip next year. The tipster also claims that Huawei and partners will make the chip using an “equivalent 3nm process.”

Huawei and SMIC, its chip provider, haven’t been able to develop any process beyond the old 7nm one. Some reports earlier this year indicated that Huawei is developing a true 5nm production line without the requirement for EUV lithography machines.
Huawei can’t use the EUV machines because the Dutch company ASML holds the patent for the technology. The United States government, in collaboration with the Dutch government, has banned ASML from selling its most advanced chip technology to China, which affects companies like Huawei.
Huawei and SMIC are using different technologies to achieve 5nm and 3nm chips, but we haven’t received any credible information on the development so far.
Huawei’s gaming phone could be part of the Mate series
Rumors about the 3nm chip aside, Huawei recently trademarked the Mate 80 GTS moniker, which could be its first gaming phone. A lot of manufacturers are enjoying success in the gaming industry phone segment, so it’s natural for Huawei to board the bandwagon.
However, without a true performance-centric chip, like those made with the 3nm or 5nm processes, the brand will find it hard to compete in the segment. There are reports that China will be able to mass-produce 5nm chips next year, so we can only wait and watch what Huawei is hiding under the curtain.
