Call of Duty: Mobile is getting a DMZ mode, and it's exactly what the game needs
Activision plans to launch DMZ Recon on December 11, 2025, so there are only a few more weeks to wait. This is good news for anyone who was a fan of Warzone Mobile. After a long development window and some delays, Warzone Mobile was released for Android and iOS in early 2024. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as well-received by the masses as Activision had hoped, leading to its eventual downfall.
Call of Duty: Mobile is getting a new extraction-based shooter mode called DMZ Recon, breathing some new life into a game that’s been around the block a few times at this point. The first official trailer for the game was released on November 19, which also reveals the launch date for the mode, and it’s sooner than you might think.
Activision has now stopped new content and support for the game as of earlier this year, and while it’s still technically playable for those who have it installed, the servers will be pulled offline eventually. This is all to say that Call of Duty: Mobile’s new DMZ Recon mode is exactly what this game needs. A larger scale mode with more players, higher stakes, and all the same chaos of Warzone Mobile.
DMZ Recon in Call of Duty: Mobile feels like the original DMZ mode
DMZ Recon isn’t available yet and won’t be for another few weeks. However, Activision gave us access to test the new mode this past week so we could check out everything it had to offer. I regrettably had limited time with this mode due to some connection issues. So my experiences weren’t as fleshed out as they could have been. It’s also worth pointing out that the build I had access to was unfinished, so any issues I noticed while in-game aren’t representative of the final build for the mode coming in December.
With that said, DMZ Recon feels like what DMZ felt like in Modern Warfare III. Maybe a little bit less hectic, but all the parts are there and executed fairly well. You can set up your loadout prior to loading in, and items are purchased using funds you earn through playing DMZ Recon, just like how cash you found in DMZ allowed you to purchase upgrades and such in Modern Warfare III, if you were able to extract with it.
There do seem to be more tiers of equipment, though. Admittedly, DMZ Recon might take some getting used to with touch controls. Compared to regular Call of Duty: Mobile matches, DMZ Recon will have you scaling parts of the map up or down, while you will still need to traverse the maps in every other direction. You’ll want some pretty nimble fingers to make this movement across the map flawless. You could also hook up a controller.
There were very few people who had access to the early build of the game, so I didn’t experience any interactions with other real players. However, expect it to be flooded with real players upon launch, making things a lot more challenging and high stakes.
