This Google Pixel 10 Pro feature will make you want to upgrade

The Google Pixel 10 may be a week away for most people, but early impressions and early looks at the device are starting to make their way to the internet and reveal some interesting details, like the fact that the Always On Display features a stylish blurred background. Unlike the current version of the AOD on older devices, the Pixel 10 series doesn’t serve you up a black screen with the time and date and your notifications. It actually shows you the wallpaper you have set for your device, but puts it behind that blurred visual style. Just like you might get from a slightly steamed-up or rain-covered window.
It’s safe to say that this has to do with the version of Android running on the Pixel 10 series. In addition to the type of panel it’s using. With that being said, this may not be something Google will push to the Pixel 9 or older Pixel devices. Even if they do end up with Android 16.

The always-on display blurred background may not come to the regular Pixel 10
Although this is a feature that has popped up on a Pixel 10 series device, it appears to be one of the Pixel 10 Pro models. Images shared by AssembleDebug on X showcase what that blurred background looks like. As reported by Android Police, though, it doesn’t seem this will be a feature that comes to the base model of Google’s new phone.
The regular Pixel 10 doesn’t use an LTPO panel, and it has a more restricted refresh rate than the Pixel 10 Pro models. These differences could make adding the feature a hindrance to battery life. So, in the end, Google might not feel it’s worth the tradeoff. This hasn’t been confirmed, of course, but it makes sense. One of Google’s main selling points of the Pixel 10 and its Pro counterparts is the extended battery life. Google probably wouldn’t want to do anything that could go against that.
If this sounds like a feature you’d like to have, you can pre-order the Pixel 10 Pro already, and it launches on August 28. The Pixel 10 Pro price starts at $999.99, and there are some pretty good promotions going on for it. For instance, Amazon will give you a $200 gift card.

Pixel 10 Pro’s Always-On Display is getting a major glow-up with a stylish blurred wallpaper effect, giving your lock screen a premium look that’s a big step up from the plain black screens of older Pixels.
