Samsung’s plan for the Galaxy Z Fold 7

Industry sources report that Samsung is considering pen input technology that does not need a digitizer. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected in 2025, may introduce this new approach for S Pen support. This change aligns with Samsung’s push to make foldable phones thinner, a growing demand in the market.

The digitizer in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology. It creates an electric field on the display panel, allowing battery-free S Pen input. However, the digitizer adds thickness to the device, forcing Samsung to choose between pen input and a slim design.

To solve this, Samsung is exploring a new method similar to Apple’s Active Electrostatic (AES) technology. AES shifts the technology to the pen itself.
