Ford is among the vehicle manufacturers that allow you to unlock your cars or other vehicles using your smartphones and smartwatches. The company updated its smartphone app in May this year, which added this smart key tech. This feature also allows users to start and lock their cars using their phones. However, Ford has now announced that its ‘Phone as a key’ feature is not working on some Android devices.

Some Android device users can not unlock their Ford car using the phone key feature

Ford has sent an email to its customers warning that Android users may run into issues with the ‘Phone as a key’ feature. A recent software update for Android 14 is impacting the handy functionality. The issue leaves the FordPass app unable to unlock vehicles reliably using a smartphone.

Unfortunately, Ford hasn’t revealed a specific explanation of which update is causing issues. It seems strange, as the Android 14 update has been around for a while now. There’s a possibility that the issue is with the FordPass application itself, rather than the Android 14 OS version.

The company is working on a solution to address the issue

Furthermore, Ford has announced that it is currently working on a solution to fix the problem that’s causing the key feature to not work on Android 14 devices. For now, the vehicle manufacturer has advised users to use their key fob or Backup Passcode to unlock their cars.

Also, Ford has asked its car owners to not reset or delete their phone as a key. This action could lock you out of your vehicle. Several Ford car owners have shared emails from the company in a group on Facebook. We hope that the brand will resolve this problem as soon as possible.

In related news, after far too long, Ford was back with an app for Android devices last week. The FordPass app now supports Wear OS, which gives users an option beyond phone control. So, now Ford users can unlock their cars using their smartwatches.
