A couple of rugged Samsung devices are in development
Most people don’t typically encounter rugged phones in their daily lives. However, it remains an important niche for Samsung as they keep releasing Galaxy products in their “Active” lineup. Recent findings suggest that Samsung is already working on a couple of new rugged Galaxy devices for the series.
The South Korean giant not only releases rugged mobile phones but even tablets. Rugged smartphones are especially useful for both industrial environments and for adventurers who want to carry their phones with them when encountering difficult conditions. On the other hand, the size of rugged tablets, while less practical for adventures, makes them ideal devices for companies and businesses.
Samsung is reportedly working on a new rugged Galaxy Active phone and tablet
GalaxyClub spotted a couple of new Android rugged devices from Samsung in development. The first one has the model number SM-G766B, which is similar to previous models in the Galaxy XCover series of rugged phones. So, all clues point to Samsung already working on the Galaxy XCover 8. For reference, its predecessor, the XCover 7, arrived earlier this year. The source suggests that the next-gen model will be announced sometime in mid-2025.
The report also mentions an upcoming rugged tablet under the Galaxy Tab Active series. Currently, the model number of the device is unknown. However, rumors suggest that the device will launch under the name Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro.
If the marketing name is accurate, Samsung may be making minor adjustments to its naming scheme for the Galaxy Tab Active products. The last models were the Galaxy Tab Active 3, Tab Active 4 Pro, and Galaxy Tab Active 5. For the first time, the vanilla and Pro models may have the same numbering.
Both may arrive in mid-2025
Like the Galaxy XCover 8, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 is expected to hit the market in mid-2025. There is currently no information on the tech specs of these devices. However, Samsung tends to focus more on useful features for business environments than on powerful specs. For example, the Galaxy Tab Active devices are not only rugged, but they also include software for managing business operations and processes. There’s also S Pen support on board, making them even more practical.
